Bogus Anti-Virus Websites and Emails

There are an ever increasing number of websites and emails that claim that they have detected that your computer is infected with a number of viruses. They usually then go on to ask you to download their 'tool' to remove the infections.

Don't do it!

These websites and emails are almost certainly bogus, and downloading the above mentioned 'tool' will usually infect your computer with a virus or spyware.

 

How to Spot If You Have a Virus

    • Anti-Virus Software - protects your computer against known viruses. It may be able to identify and remove a virus before any damage is done. As with all software it is important to keep your Anti-Virus up to date.
    • Firewall Software - can help prevent remote access and infections by blocking certain incoming and outgoing network traffic.
  • Passwords
